I was asked to spell the word Depression
I thought for a second and said
"Which way would you like me to spell it"
The teacher paused and looked at me all puzzled
"What kind of stupid question is that"
He chuckled and repeated the question
"I would like you to spell the word Depression it's rather simple really"
And now this is where I got to chuckle and say
"Sir, I believe what you are asking is a question I cannot answer, because to me Depression is not a three syllable, 10 lettered word. Depression is when I go back home to a broken family.. my mum and dad fight all the time.. there's never a moment that passes by without them trying to kill each other.. depression is when my parents and siblings wish I never existed.. it's when I have to bare the burden of trying to survive when on one wants you to.. to me depression is when what doesn't kill you makes you wish it did.. depression is when I want to disappear and run far far away.. it's when I can't enjoy the things I loved to do before.. it's sad really
Depression is when you sleep at 6am in morning and wake up 30mins later for school because I couldn't sleep the entire night.. my eyelids are heavy but my thoughts are always heavier.. I've been awake long enough to know that our minds are dangerous places to be in for long.. depression is hoping that every night I lay on my bed.. I'll fall asleep before I fall apart..
It's the same Depression that gets you a handful of 'cheer up's' and 'Get over it's.' and maybe even some 'Oh just be happy's' but the last time I checked the boy seated next to me can't just cheer up when he lost his mother in his arms and that girl in the next class can't just get over it when she was forcefully raped.. and honestly I can't just be happy.. we all have our own darkness to face every hour every day
So sir when you ask me to spell depression I define it as understood
So do not tell me it is simple to spell and do not tell me I am stupid when I ask in which way you are asking because to me
Depression isn't just a simple three syllable ten lettered word.
