F

my heart is not a cold dead place

Hallowing ribs form the walls of my cave.
Darkness blankets- I’m hungry, not depraved.
Trapped inside from past complications,
The blood pooled within this foundation.
Years of misuse and mistrust kept blood static,
I feared it would turn toxic, grow systematic.
But when you entered, sassy and abrupt…
Some vessels freed, disturbing the construct.
It’s slow, for now, not outright gushing-
Pacing myself, I’ve never been into rushing.
It’s just the barriers of bone are breaking,
And blood is finally reshaping and escaping.
Heart muscles with memories beat and flex,
With each new rhythm decreasingly complex.
Permeating, oxygenating, enlivening every cell,
Hope it can revive, but maybe already too unwell..
