Nigeria's 60th birthday

My beloved motherland Nigeria,
see how badly, you've fared since your birth,
you have everything, yet suffer utterly,
tears do not cease to flow in the eyes of your children,
happiness has long took off from thier midst
how pathetic that the butcher's children
know not how the aroma and taste of meat looks like.
Frustration is boldly written all over your children.
You are a woman who has forgotten her nursing children,
who refused compassion for the children of her womb.
You abandon them to the claws of the world,
to oppress, stigmatise, ridicule and branded as the corrupt ones,
even as they call you, mother of the poor ones,
with all the enormous wealth God has deposited in you.
It's your 60th birthday, and its cumbersome for me
to celebrate you on this joyous day
because of the way, you have lived your life.
Everything seems to go down the drain in your hands.
Many of your children have denounced you,
many have left you, many can't wait to leave you,
without ever looking back.
It is really onerous to celebrate your birthday.
Cos, everything looks gloomy, the good old days may never return.
