Every year that passes I remember
you're gone with no grave to go to.
Plenty of memories and reminders
The fear and terror.
But no place to mourn the loss
What could have been
what should have been
Never was and never will be.
Never getting a goodbye
No funeral for the scary beast.
That haunts my dreams
Sleep filled of fear and panic
Coated with the bitter sweet sadness and relief
Of what could have been.
No note, no goodbye.
No gravestone to sit by
As my pain and relief pour from my eyes.
The monster may be gone,
But the fear of his return always lingers
I may be free but still, I am a prisoner.
I can't even mourn, you didn't die
I am left broken, terrified, and never able to catch my breath
Paralyzed and afraid of your return that will never come.
At least until your true death.
