Not just a dog , a legacy

Not just a dog , a legacy

Not just a dog , a legacy

I remember you panting on the humid days

I would make sure you had plenty of cold water

You would scratch the door , if you wanted outside

There you went , out to the yard you would saunter

After some sniffing and exploring ,you found a spot

You would go do your business , then return back

Sometimes you would walk slow , or would trot

You came in and if course looked for a snack

I had the box of large milkbones that you liked

You really enjoyed them , sometimes a few

There wasn't much really that you disliked

You only had to investigate and make a review

I remember one time , I just finished cooking

I had a bowl of french fries on the counter

I had to leave for a minute , I asked my sibling

To watch you and my meal that you don't devour

But when I returned my fries were all gone

I didn't get mad even though you were guilty

I believed you looked content as you yawned

I was only gone a minute , you ate very quickly

I think one day we were riding in the car

You brought one of your stuffed toys with you

The back windows were open , and so bizarre

You shook the toy right out , what could we do?

My aunt had a dog too , a tiny dog named Roscoe

We had the upstairs , my aunt had the downstairs

We shared the back yard , where both dogs wallow

Roscoe would run toward and try and attack Bear

Bear the chill and mellow canine he is mostly

Would hold down Roscoe until he would relax

Then when he was calmer ,he'd let him up slowly

Soon both are happy ,all while their tails wag

Bear had been saving tiny pieces of bones

So I decided to get him a box to keep them in

After months of saving he had many he owned

Each one he had checked and did examine

Bear was a very smart and intelligent puppy

He could shake both paws , sit , stay , lay , catch

I could say whisper and he would bark silently

His jaws would open but no sound from the hatch

He absolutely loved to go swimming any time

The worst part for him is when it was time to leave

He would swim after me splashing but it was fine

I would throw a stick and out he'd go to retrieve

This has gotten to be a long poem but gosh!

There's so many great memories of my friend

A dog that was loyal , brave , smart , and posh

I will always love , and remember , past my end
