Nothing Will Last

Nothing Will Last
Hold my hand, my dearest
and weigh me down into nothingness.
We could speak of poetry and the past,
or maybe share a drink,

and say nothing will last.

We'll wander through streetlights and sighs,
for neither love nor rebellion is our prize;
Stars stretch across the sky, mocking us,
as I dangle between not knowing,

and your beautiful eyes.

So dismal are my days, they loom and scowl;
I laugh and drown in the absurdity of it all.
The only truth about living is that it ends,
leaving behind cold bodies,

that once held hands.
