He steps into the same old bar
Just like so many times before.
Decides he'll have a glass.
Well, maybe a half a drink more.
Trying to lose his memory
In the bottom of a glass
'Cause maybe tonight,
Maybe tonight, the dreams will pass.
Ya see,this old, dirty bar
and this old, dirty chair.
Its seen its own
Bloody share.
It's seen him bloody from a street fight.
Its seen him dressed up for a show.
Its seen him on top of the world,
And its seen him crash down low.
What brings him tonight
With a sort of death on his face?
What's that broken look?
His smile gone without a trace.
His body don't limp.
His hands don't bleed.
So why's he look.
Like he saw the devil freed?
I'll tell you. But ya gotta look close.
See what he's holding.
In those big tough hands
What are we beholding?
A picture of a girl, maybe ten years old,
Her daddy's Angel, mother's light.
Now look at his eyes and you'll see.
You'll know why he came tonight.
Down the street, a hospital stands.
A place of hope, now a place of gloom.
On one little bed, a child had laid.
Now all that stayed was an empty room.
So here we see a warrior man.
A fighter, a lover, a tough guy, a cad.
But the one little name he wants ta hear
From the lips of a child, just a whispered "Dad".
Ya see, this old, dirty bar
And thus old, dirty chair.
Well they've seen their
Bloody share.
And that man who behind
the counter stands.
Has to watch that head
Fall into those hands.
He's gotta watch
This old dirty man.
Fall on his face.
Cause its the only place he can.
