old girl

Good old girl walking so slow, falling down kicking legs to and fro, it broke my heart to see you this way, couldn't take it no more, wandering around pacing the floor night and day, you've been here fifteen long years, you're one of the family to, we will always love you and remember your barks, playing with the kids on the floor into the dark, protecting our family when a knock at the door, driving you out into the wild, to find the perfect place, we pulled up the truck and then dug your grave, a last meal of warm ribs I lay in it for you, then the wind started to blow suddenly my kid noticed to, on such a bright sunny day, I can feel the spirits of our family are here I told my kid, poor old dog so happily eating her ribs, so happy her face, looking around in the wild that day, she never saw it coming, as i raise the gun to the back of her head, don't do it dad my daughters voice rang out, a squeeze from my trembling finger, and I had taken you out, the wind quit blowing right after the shot ! I knew the spirits of my family took her on up to heaven above, a few steps back, i fell back into the seat of my truck, to watch my youngest daughter cover her up, putting a cross of sticks in the ground, dirt and rocks on top, as her tears hit the ground, for both of us the tears couldn't stop, so sad yesterday, it was a rough day for both of us, but we did what was right for her, no more suffering. I told my daughter on the way home, this was a very spiritual thing, when the Spirits came to take her up with them. And then they had suddenly stopped the wind, We will always remember that day, when we lost the one we loved. But we know she's in a better place, with our family, in heaven above. On this spiritual day, when we lost our dog. This poem, In memory of Britt we will always love you, and miss you. Old girl.....
