On My Walk

Tonight on my walk
Down Rt Sixty and six
I saw as I walked
Many homeless in a fix,
The night is very cold
Tent cities were everywhere
Five tents facing each other
A sterno fire they share,
Over the five small tents
Was a tarp canopy
They huddle hiding from the world
The world they cared not to see,
Many say love can be blind
I say love can be mostly stoned
When their addiction cries out
They boost from Big Box stores alone,
Last winter five froze to death
So far this year only three
There are no "Wet Shelters"
They froze sobriety free,
No matter where I went
There was always a hand out
I live below poverty so my money's spent,
I still take my calming nightly walk
Choking on "Sorry I carry no money"
Why do the homeless have no home
Not even enough food in this land of plenty,
Plenty of heartache,and pain
Plenty of homeless hungry at night
Plenty of reasons to be angry
Plenty of reasons to put up a fight.
