Once I had a dog
I once had a dog named Bear
He was a Rottweiler and Shepherd
He had coarse black and brown hair
Very calm and so mildly tempered
He disliked yelling or cursing,of any
He also did not care for a bath at all
But the lake, he enjoyed immensely
If it's his choice, he'd stay until nightfall
Bear was very friendly to other animals
Cats and dogs, he only wanted to be friends
Of course he loved rattling the cats ruffles
He chased them all the time, no ill intent
He saved his bones from every meal
And the stuffed animal toys he mangled
He loved his tennis balls most of the time
But his green frisbie, in his mouth, dangled
At night when I wanted him to speak
He showed me that he could whisper
I would say whisper, and his beak....
I mean jaws.....would open, but not a whimper
I remember when I first bought a harness
It was green and the leash was matching
A few times asking to lift his paw, my goodness!!
He taught himself to put his paw in, by lifting
He was very intelligent too, a few phrases
I repeated many times, until he knew them
One was "Go around ", if he tangled in his leash
He would go the opposite way, and be free again
There's tonnes to say about this dog, quite a lot
I think about him every single day since he departed
Sadly, he went over the Rainbow bridge, to his spot
To this dog, my only true friend, I am indebted
