Once upon a time (true story)

Once upon a time, there was a dog

He was a Rottweiler, strong but gentle

He loved his tennis balls that he chewed

It kept his jaws in shape, and he was special

One day it was the dog, my cousin and I

Casually walking along the lake in winter

The water was frozen around the shore

Where we stood it was much thinner

My cousin decided to throw a snowball

He threw it and it landed on the thin ice

My dog who was unleashed, had ran after it

After getting to the snowball, he payed the price

He fell through the cracking ice and went in

He could not get out as it was slippery all around

Luckily my cousin was thinking, slowly he walked

Laying down to spread his weight, he got the hound

Pulling my dog up from the water safely and quickly

I reached for my best friend and took off his sweater

We rushed home as fast as possible to get him warm

I dried the wet guy with a towel and made him better

It was a close call for my puppy and for me as well

I would have lost a great companion and friend

I'm grateful for the brave actions of my cousin
