Once Was I

Once I had no shred of descentcy
Not a molecule of moral fiber
Only spite filled mine human shell
So I end up in the dark bowels of hell...
No one saw any good inside me
They figured to let my anger devour me
I was a demon longing to be free
Until a whispering called to me...
This whisper said I'm really no stranger
For many I've removed their anger
All they said was oh Lord set me free
Oh Lord please I'm begging thee...
I heard the voice yet saw no face
Ever so slowly I was taken to a quiet place
A place of the purest of serenity
Came awash over the sinner in me...
Hell is not a very pleasant place
Voices screaming without a face
The chaos causes one's heart to race
My Lord lifted me out of this dark place...
Change does not come in an instant
Change does not come in a blink
Change comes as slow as a seed doth grow
Anyone who says different little do they know...
Their Monday to Saturday sins they hide
On Sunday forgiveness they will plead
Forgiveness will be lost or denied
For from Monday to Saturday they return to greed...
It took me well over fifteen years
It took me well over an ocean of tears
I read the Word from the Alpha to Omega
Thirty three times, twelve of fifteen years
Now each day those Words I try to heed...
Today I believe in Spirituality
Peace can be found in each faith
Violence is the teachings of man
Calm is the Spiritual way...
Once I Was... Now I Try Not To Be,
Once I Was... Now It's No Longer Me...
