Back east I could cash in
One day of collecting cans
60$ At times even more
Here unless you've a route
100 lbs yeilds maybe 42$
Over the last few months
I've collected possibly 70 lbs
So I earn extra money
One stomp at a time.
In the early morn when I walk
I see them nearly everywhere
Trying to pad their income
Lift themselves from dispair,
Life hasn't been easy
Getting on then off methadone
They'll talk to scant few
Wanting to be left alone.,
I've seen them sleep on gravel
1/2" to up more than 2" thick
Once thet lay their head down
Sleep will come pretty quick,
Then it's up before the sun
Drink a cheap cup of joe
Splash water on their face
Then it's off to collecting they go,
Life is a vicious cycle
Get all they can before 1
Get ready to cash today's harvest
Wanting a life that's better
Build up their savings nest,
In the early morn when I walk
I can see them most everywhere
When I've enough money
I'll give what I can spare.
