Onward and forward
He said to nobody in particular 
The road lies ahead,
Legs itching, mind focused 
Must get on it and ride
Ride the road, why not?
If there is nothing left to look behind,
Then the only way left is
Onward and forward
Murmuring to himself

He liked the road, sure
Mind set at ease when on
Eyes fixed to the ground,
He knew he had to march on
There is nothing left to look behind
And no time for pleasantries yet
For the fellow soul, now trailing
As the road lies out front

Some nights, under a sea of stars
A breeze gently pushing him forward 
Never ending road on the horizon
He likes to think about
What would the road’s end look like
“Expect the unexpected”
Babbling to himself
As there is nothing left to look behind
Still fearful of what’s next to come
Eyes fixed on the ground
Onward and forward

As there is nothing left to look behind
Deep down inside
Couldn’t admit the sins of the past,
Still with him on the road,
Bearing down on his shoulders yet
So there is nothing left to look behind..
