In the dead of night, two figures meet,
Beneath a sky, starless and bleak.
Their faces hidden, their voices low,
They speak of a pact, with promises to sow.
One says, "I'll give you all my wealth,
If you'll help me regain my health."
The other nods, and solemnly replies,
"I'll do my best, and not tell any lies."
And so they seal the deal with a handshake,
Each hoping their desires will soon awake.
The moon bears witness to their vow,
And watches over them, as they depart for now.
Days turn to weeks, weeks turn to months,
Their fates intertwined, like twin runts.
One slowly gains, while the other fades,
A bargain struck, with prices to be paid.
The wealthy man looks back with regret,
As he sees his former friend's silhouette.
He knows that what he did was wrong,
And that he'll carry the guilt for long.
The pact they made, a fateful decision,
A lesson learned, with much precision.
For what is gained, may come at a cost,
And what is lost, may never be recouped or crossed.
