Depression is like an escape room
You can't see the windows or doors
All you can do is sit in the dark alone, haunted by your thoughts.
The frustration of this mental game is that there are no clues to stop horrifying events from unfolding because the key to the locked door is hidden well within you.
Your mental state feels like someone is constantly hitting your panic button, and your emotions are stuck in fight or flight mode.
Your mind is exhausted, and your body is spent like a bullet leaving the gun chamber, preferring death because that would be peaceful.
But right before you pull the trigger, the door cracks open, the light creeps into the darkness, and hope lifts the fogginess.
You can see the door. You can hear someone in the distance asking you, " how are things going?"
The rescue team has arrived; God has sent family and friends to step in the gap, lift the mental weight and help execute your escape.
The walls of the escape room collapse, and the sunlight chases away the darkness. The arms of loved ones embrace you.
You realize you are not meant to be alone, and God is always present, working through family, friends, strangers, and community.
