Part One – Where Water Meets Fire

On a night when the fog hung over the German city like a thin curtain, the Spirit of Water moved silently along the riverbank. Her steps made no sound, and wherever she walked, the ground grew colder. She always drifted among the people of the city, yet no one ever dared to approach her. Water was always alone.

She slowly climbed the stone bridge and stood at its center, wrapped in the mist. She exhaled, and a small swirl of vapor curled through the air. That was the moment she felt it—an unfamiliar warmth rising behind her. A heat she had never touched before.

Water turned, and through the fog she saw an orange silhouette. Flames swayed gently, casting a soft glow across the cobblestone street. The Spirit of Fire stepped forward. Each step warmed the ground. Water instinctively took one step back, but she didn’t run. Her eyes stayed locked on that gentle light that strangely didn’t seem to want to burn her.

Fire said, “Don’t go so far. I didn’t come to hurt you.”
His voice was warm, like a breeze passing a fireplace.

Water answered after a pause, “I just… don’t know why you’re here. You shouldn’t be near me. I might… put you out without meaning to.”

Fire didn’t move closer. He stood still in the fog, his flames rising and shrinking softly. Then he said, “If I were afraid of being extinguished, I would have never left my homeland. I only wanted to see… what you’re really like.”

Water felt the space between them shrinking. Without stepping back again, she asked, “How did you even know I was here?”

Fire smiled. The glow of it spread through the mist. “I followed the sound of the river. Wherever you are, the world becomes calmer.”

For the first time, Water felt unafraid of someone. She stepped down from the bridge and said, “Come… if you dare, enter our city. You might see things you never expected.”

Fire hesitated for a moment. His flames flickered, then he answered, “Okay… but you have to walk ahead. I’ll only follow you. I don’t want even a drop of you falling on me.”

Water climbed the stone steps slowly, each step even more careful than the last, as if she wanted to be certain Fire was really behind her. When she reached the top of the bridge, she turned. Fire was still there. Warm. Bright. And strangely… peaceful.

With a quiet voice, Water said, “Then come. This is where it begins.”

And Fire followed her without another word, his flames dancing behind her like a warm banner.

That night, neither of them knew that these simple footsteps… would bind their destinies together forever.
