A man sleeping on a paved street
My next door neighbor in line
Her credit denied
A retired veteran begging for money
Business men walk by with phones in hand
Oblivious to suffering of their fellow man
A busy mom struggling with her kids
Scared of the harmless man sleeping on his makeshift bed
My neighbor embarrassed from holding up the line
Has to put her son's reward away
A reward for good grades
Should I help? If I do will she think I'm looking down on her?
My mind runs ablaze with unnecessary doubt
The begging veteran from before turns about
With the money scavenged pays for the reward
Giving the mom a, "Your welcome."
And the kid a good shake
They leave the line with a smile on their face
Why did the poor man help the needy?
I had plenty of money
Does not helping make me greedy?
I don't know how to answer
But this much I do
I will strive to be better
A better neighbor, citizen, and helper
