My doctor prescribed me the most peculiar drug
One consisting on the basis of chance or fate
The frugal and seemingly scarce force of luck
When he gave me the prescription I looked at him with quite the eye
One eye brow raised to the fullest
Showing him the cause for obvious concern
He returned a cheerful expression
Motioning me away as he had other patients
As I walked out of the doctor's office
I looked curiously at the orange cylinder in my hand
At first glance it is identical to the normal prescription bottle
Translucent orange with a blue top wrapped in a sticky white paper with several details
However, inspecting on a deeper level it becomes noticeable the one main difference between this and every other one
There was no substance within the container
Just clear air waiting for something to take its place
Many ideas race through my head trying to figure out the meaning behind this dosage of luck
But the only thing I could conclude was that it was indeed peculiar
And since the visit ended up being free I tossed the bottle in my bag without a second thought
A few days passed and I realized my standard of living has improved
Without giving the crazy prescription a second thought I kept going about my days
As the weeks came and went
There were many instances where events played out in my favor
I eventually met people in my life who brought out the best in me
Along with finding a love I always imagined being unfeasible
That is until one day I grew complacent and broke the medicine bottle
The orange cylinder that was filled with nothing but air
Broken into chunks of sharp plastic
For days after, I began to notice differences in my routine
It almost seemed as if my luck was running out
Knowing the experiences I had had the months prior
I made my way the the doctor who prescribed me the remedy of fortune
While hysterically explaining what happened, he looked at me with a serious expression before bursting out into laughter
I raised my right brow in confusion
Waiting for an explanation on the sudden outburst
After he calmed down he began to explain to me how the empty bottle was merely an empty bottle
How the luck he said was in there was fictional and was only said because he could find nothing wrong with me except the way I viewed life
The way I saw myself as unlucky, thus why I believed everything around me would always be terrible
The bottle was only given to me in the hopes that a placebo effect would work on me
I sat slackjawed as the explanation hit me
So, with what he said everything good that has happen to me has been my doing?
The realization sunk in and my heart spead up
Excitement was flooding my being as I finally figured out I had it in me to live the way I wanted to
And no outside force like bad or good luck could change that
I took the broken plastic pieces out of my pockets and threw them in the trash bin
Walking out the doctor's office feeling rejuvenated
Knowing my life was just beginning
