PLEASE DON'T LET IT BE YELLOW

PLEASE DON'T LET IT BE YELLOW
I always thought
yellow meant sunshine,
warmth, joy,
and hope.

But somehow,
it has always been
the beginning of my trauma.

In one way or another,
it is always there—

in the times I failed,
the times I went hungry,
the times I was enraged,
the times my world fell apart.

It surrounded me.
Those yellow stains,
those yellow paints—
if they weren’t there,
there was nothing else.

And every time I set out
on a new journey,
I whisper to myself:

Please… not yellow.

Because when I think of it,
I remember
my dark faith,
my weakness,
my pain,
and my faith that failed me.

So please—
don’t let it be yellow.
