If I had met a girl like me,

With eye as salty as the sea,

I would not like her at all,

For seeing her could be a wake up call.

I would see a mirror of my past,

And I don't know how long I'd last.

I would see all there is too me,

All that I have failed to be.

Yet, I would not see my failures,

Nor any mistakes or flaws.

I would see all that she had gone through,

How she made herself anew.

I would see her strength and determination,

I would look to her with admiration.

I would not see myself in her tired face,

I would only see a sweet, warm embrace.

A seemingly benevolent touch,

One that could never give away too much.

A touch starved child on the inside,

A despondent soul is what resides.

A soul left lost and wandering,

A broken soul left searching.

Searching for the love she always wanted,

A wish that was never granted.

I would not be able to recognize me,

The eyes as glossy as polished gems,

The smile so bright yet lonely,

The mind as dark as the night's hems.

I am a stranger to myself,

I would not recognize her.

She is but a phantom of my soul,

A part of me that used to be whole.
