Prisoner of my mind
Is it normal to be lost in thoughts?
Is it normal for the mind
to create images so unreal,
yet powerful enough to break you?
Is it normal to fear
what your own mind can imagine?
My mind is like a car
that drives itself—
and I am just a passenger.
It is like an aggressive wave,
and I am its prey.
It is mine,
yet I am too weak to control it,
so it becomes my master.
It directs my thoughts,
and I become powerless.
It celebrates briefly,
then embraces pain
while I simply follow.
It does not long for freedom,
for it already does as it pleases.
Sometimes I wish
I could be free like my mind.
But how can I be free
when I don’t even have
control over it?
