Puzzle Pieces

Putting my world together like a puzzle,

If you listen closely, you’ll hear my thoughts muddle.

Words of inconvenience disturb expectations you levy.

“This gentleman has it all together,” some envy.

Yet no one understands

the unhappiness harboring within me.

Putting away my future and my past

just to fit into your present.

Wailing while shedding no tears

for decisions you made for me.

Bending me to a will

that still haunts me.

Happiness packed up and left.

Tears rented the vacant apartment,

while pain sublets.

Living with such housemates

taught me how to step outside

hiding behind a smile

while reality quietly says hello.

It feels like I’m locked in a prison

while holding the key.

But what is the prize of freedom

when your captors wear familiar faces?

Captors who share my blood,

captors who know where i stand

and what i want

yet place themselves first,

making decisions

that shape my future.

Leaving me with nothing

but a word of blind trust to follow,

and the hope they are right

while deep within

I already know

they are wrong.
