They told me to write about Jesus
but somehow I can’t fail to talk about religion.
So I am stuck in this first sentence
because it seems something got lost in translation.
Jesus tells me to walk with faith
but religion gives you permission to have bodyguards.
Jesus says love your neighbor as you love yourself
but religion rather have the fortunate get privileged
to even sit on the front row in churches
then turn away the poor as if their air is borrowed.
Religion condemns prostitution
but it hides the darkest form of molestation;
Talk of the 12year old boys found in the high priest’s dungeon
or the prophetic man of God
pretending to pray away the cancer
by caressing the woman’s breast in front of his congregation.
Oh let’s not forget about the missionaries
who introduced slavery in the name of religion;
forcing Africans to denounce their tradition
live in a world where they never fit in;
yet the Bible tells we are all created in God’s likeness.
I have nothing against beliefs
but I do have have to question religion.
A man made excuse to discriminate
It’s ironic how you would rather go hungry
and let your man of God live in luxury.
You give your money to build these big churches
yet we still have the homeless who don’t know where their next meal is.
Jesus said,
give to Caesar what is Caesar’s
and give to God what belongs to him
but religion has turned belief into a business
that one has to buy blessings
just to get anointed or seen worthy.
There are so many questions
but very few answers.
So don’t tell me to talk about Jesus
when you can’t explain religion.
