Sitting here across the room
I hear the drop of a faucet.
I try to focus on the noise,
but skeletons knock on my closet.
They tap their bones against the door,
scurrying like pests.
I warn them all to knock no more,
but skeletons do not rest.
"Remember Him!'", they cry out
"Remember why we're here!
Remember all the things he said?"
'I HEAR THEM LOUD AND CLEAR!'
"Remember how he looked at you?
Remember how you gleamed?
Remember how he stroked your hair- "
'STOP REMINDING ME!' I screamed.
"Remember how he said he cared?
That he gave his heart to you?
Remember how he changed his mind and-"
'.-ripped my heart in two...'
"Remember how his 'love was true' ,
and there was never someone else?
Remember how he abandoned you and-"
'-made me hate myself.'
"But remember how happy you were?
The bright future you had planned...?
Remember how he walked away and-"
'-crushed every dream I had."
Briefly, I hear the faucet.
But then it drips no more.
Again from deep within the dark
there is knocking at my door.
'I UNDERSTAND!', I scream at them.
'I KNOW HE MESSED ME UP!
But let me focus on something more.
Just let me hear one drop..."
