on 31th Dec,in1929 at mid night Pundit jawharlal Nehru hoisted the Indian tricolored flag on the bank of the river ravi among 15 thousands congress workers as symbol of completely liberated India and demanded complete independence of India.
the indian congress decided to observed 26th January each year as indian independence day to symbolize the glorious moment.
they would be continued to observe this day till India become liberated.

they started torturing and arresting the innocent indians.
in the year 1950 the Indian Government declared 26th January as the Republic day when indian constitution came into force..
