Reservoir of Tears

She lay there
Partly covered
One leg extended
In anguish
One shoe
Hanging off
The foot
As if trying
To escape
The aura
Of death.
I stood there
Not knowing
What emotion
To express
What way
To show
My desperation
My shell is hard
So I show
Nothing
Even though
The departing
Soul
Was shredding
My heart
With grief.
Yes
I showed nothing
To my shame
But the itch
Does not go away
Three mornings
Later I swung
My legs
To the ground
And exploded in
A reservoir
Of tears
That flowed
Until my very
Heart extinguished
Every scintilla
Of remorse.
I sat there on
The bedside
In my wife's
Soothing arms
Until the tremors
Subsided
In the distance
I heard a bird
Shrill cry
Nature interpretating
My grief
It is time
I can bury her
And
 My grief.
