Rich to Poor

The Light wraps around me
It shines so I can see
I am the center of attention
Everywhere I go, people show me affection
I am strong, and admired
I speak with power, to inspire
My confidence firing from the inside
Its big with strength and wide
The colors bright
Red, orange, and blue shining with light
Everything is serene, at ease
The wind softly blowing with a light breeze
My clothes are glamorous
You can say my life is fabulous
My life is plentiful
My life is beautiful
My life is wonderful at last
I look in the glass
I am the blazing Sun
I am more than none
I am flying
I am living
I am weak and despised
I can no longer look in others’ eyes
I went from rich to poor
No one wants me anymore
My confidence extinguishing
It’s small and keeps leaving me
The colors are dull
Gray, brown, and yellow deceiving me as a fool
The Darkness invades me
Its shadows took my body, now I can’t see
The once welcomed eyes, leaves
I cry out for help, but no one comes to rescue me
I am no Sun
I have been shunned
The sun shines with so much light
I can’t shine, I can’t fight
I look in the mirror
Everything is more queerer
My life is nothing
My life is disgusting
I am drowning
I am dying
My modern-day pilgrim experiences rise in society and the fall. You can say she’s not “right” in mind. She talks about the world physically, but also explains it spiritually. Her mind goes in and out through the real world, and her soul. She was once loved from people. Her life was rich and her mind was. Then she became poor. People paid her no mind. Discarding her. Her mind was once blossoming into a beautiful red flower, then it slowly died off, its petals turning brown. My pilgrim is dead from the inside, but the outsides remains uncertain. The tone I am setting is a dark humor one. Repetition in my poem served as a feeling of a promising life, to an ending one. Contrasting the sun and my character symbolized the disappointment my character had towards herself. My poem went from happiness to depressing, with the help of shift. Juxtaposition became the title of this poem. Putting two opposite words together make an appealing meaning in the differences. Rich to Poor shows light fading into darkness in the mind.
