By the time he realized, it was too late;
the transformation had already begun.
The dance of souls ended and he no longer heard the music.

His humanity slipping like a drift into sleep.
Unconditional love slain by conditional terms.
Spoiler alert: the protagonist dies and a shadow proxy lives on in his same body.
