once you were the king
and I was the queen
of our beautiful fairytale land.
you claimed you loved me
and I believed you
I vowed, by your side, to stand.
you warned me of monsters that roam
you vowed to protect me
but you lied to me.
the monsters that roam
are inside you
the monster is your cruelty
at times you are calm and serene
and at times you exactly what I need
but then the monster starts to rage
and I tremble at your anger
at your bitterness and spite
because you let it out of the cage.
the kingdom is failing
the castle is falling
and the fairytale is in tatters.
you don't love me
I see it now
and everything we had is shattered.
I'm not the queen;
I'm the victim
locked inside her tower
waiting for a chance to break free
a chance to decide our fate
crying for hours.
I'm trying to hold us together
with tape and tears
and broken dreams
but you're doing nothing
to help me hold on
except making me question everything.
I'm the queen of brokenness
dressed in rags
ruling nothing that matters.
trying just to decide how to save
or how to fix
a kingdom that you shattered.
