SHE LEFT!

Scars on my back,
Bruises that I hide,
Pain eating me inside,
For my kids I survive.
I work hard to provide,
"Not hard enough" she yells,
Working under the scorching sun,
In the construction site I labour,
Sadly my earnings can't even pay rent.
"What kind of a man are you? "
My wife yells everyday I get home,
"You are useless, I regret marrying you,"
Her words cut through my flesh,
Like swords in a war zone.
She crashed me into pieces,
Made me feel less of a man,
She'd hit me,
Throw things at me,
Disgrace me in public,
And there was nothing I'd do.
She'd even go as far
As burning me with a hot iron,
Pour hot water on me,
Deny me food,
Especially those days that I came empty handed,
She was the devil,
For she tormented me day in day out.
I silently endured it all,
Scared of being laughed at by my friends,
Scared of the society at large,
For it was a taboo for a man to be bitten by a woman,
Especially if the woman was his wife.
I loved her so much,
So I endured every blow,
Every insult,
Instead of fighting back or even leaving,
I loved her more.
With kids as young as 5 and 2,
I knew I didn't want a broken family,
They'd ask about my bruises,
But I'd just lie to them and keep moving,
Their mom was never there for them,
So I personally took care of my babies,
For they were my motivation and inspiration.
My love abused me,
She hated me for being poor,
For not giving her expensive gifts,
Not taking her on vacations,
She wanted to live like the celebrities on TV,
With me she was never happy.
So the worst came,
She met a rich man,
Who gave her everything,
Who treated better than I did,
So she left.
