Shield Maiden

I could have kissed her a thousand times and never took the chance.

I suppose I was too afraid of how it may appear at a glance.

Though miles had seperated us, to speak with me she literally traveled in time.

I found comfort in knowing I was hers and in some way she was mine.

Pictures sent mostly on her end to show her affection for me.

Brought this brittle, beaten soldier of great wars swiftly to a knee.

Her smile she said was broken, she said her size was of such tiny weight.

But I found her just as beautiful as I envisioned heavens gate.

So unlike all the others that I had affairs with in the past.

Something had told me this was real and in some way would last.

Lo now I am called up once more, to protect the feeble many.

Usually I would proudly answer the call with my talents of war a plenty.

For some reason though this time is different, for this time I feel depressed.

What could I do to change the way I feel, expressed feelings repressed?

I know not how long I'll be or how far this distance I will have traveled.

But I do know regardless of the answer to both these questions, I am now unraveled.

Perhaps I'll see you, Shield Maiden, the one with whom my heart rests.

I will face this mission, once more eager to be placed up to the gods tests.

And should I be felled or stricken by a foe worthy to claim my fame.

Know this, my last word will be of you as I softly sigh your name.
