Staring at my computer screen
I ponder the meaning of my existence
"Why am I even alive?"
I say this out loud as I die in the newest online game
I put my head down on my desk in defeat
Awaiting the next match to start
As I'm lying my head down a plain book catches my eye
And since I was the first one to die out of one hundred
I have some time on my hand
I grab the book and flip it open
Out of nowhere tears start to drip down my sleep deprived face
Inside the book is a note from my mom
It tells me how much she loves me
Saying that if I ever decide to come out of my room anytime soon
She will be waiting
I don't know why this breaks down my emotional wall
Since I'm a shut in who hates my family
But maybe it's the fact that I haven't seen her or dad in two years
It might have taken a bigger toll on me than I thought
"How did this get on my desk anyway?"
I push this question away and wipe the tears off my face
I still have three minutes before the match starts
So, I decide to give it a skim over
The front of the book is blank
Therefore I'm clueless about what it is
As I start to skim through it I'm instantly drawn in
Now I hate reading, but this isn't like anything I've ever seen
It is a book filled with my mom's poetry
I always loved to listen to her when I was little
This brings back tears to my eyes
The three minutes quickly pass by and the next match is ready to begin
However, I'm too entranced to stop reading
I cut off my computer without drawing my eyes away from the pages
Minutes quickly become hours
At last I have finished the book
Emotions are flooding my mind
I get up and start to walk to my door
In which has not been open by me in two years
I hesitate a little as I reach for the door knob
I twist it quickly, like ripping off a band aid
A flood of natural light fills my dark room
I take one step, then two out into the hallway
I walk from the hallway straight to the kitchen
"M-mom, D-dad." I say timidly
Both parents look at me in disbelief
My mom drops the plate she's cleaning into the sink
And my dad drops the newspaper he's reading onto the kitchen table
They both smile, and without saying anything they rush to me
Giving me a heartfelt hug
I give a little resistant at first, but quickly come to enjoy it
"Mom, Dad I love you."
With that said they hug me tighter than I ever remember
And simultaneously say, "Son, we love you too."
