Sin

An endless vexation punished we
For deeds of a passing day
A paradox of fate speaks madly
For a single misdeed, do we pay?
A sad joke twisted draconically
As years stretch on and on
An absurd call that speaks gravely
For a finite sin, eternal blame?
A cruel fate that dares to scorn
As the years pass with no reprieve
A baffling injustice to which we are sworn
For a fleeting crime, do we grieve?
A harsh hand handed strictly down
Yet never touched by reason's hand
An unreasonable truth that grieves the sound
For a moment's mistake, an eternal stand.
