Slavery

My heart aches with sorrow,
For the tragedy of slavery,
A blight on our country,
A burden so heavy.
The lives stolen from Africa,
The families torn apart,
The tears that fell in the night,
The broken hearts.
The chains that bound the wrists,
The whips that lashed the backs,
The songs of sorrow sung in the dark,
The painful lack.
The hope for freedom that never came,
The long and winding road,
The dreams of a better life,
That crumbled like stone.
The courage of those who fought,
The strength of those who endured,
The legacy left by those who were enslaved,
A lesson that must be heard.
The history of slavery must never be forgotten,
Our nation must remember the pain,
All people are equal
And that freedom is inalienable.,
