Sleep

Awake it seems all the time

To sleep, has become a rhyme

When I can't, my head gets in a bind

But I pretend everything is fine

Past memories flash in the mind

And recent moments also unwind

Of future things I've yet to find

Some good , others not too kind

What is sleep ?

I don't know anymore

My mind it leaps

Tossed back and forth

My head will beep

I won't keep score

My brain is so sore

Losses and failures start to replay

Gains and successes will also play

Of things that will always stay

With me until I'm old and grey

When I'm asleep my mind will relax

Medication made dreaming retract

Nightmares are also what I lack

Asleep I won't have a panic attack

What is sleep?

I don't know anymore

My mind it leaps

Tossing back and forth

I won't keep score

My brain is so sore

Without sleep it would be chaos

Thoughts commanding like a boss

Growing and creeping like moss

For sleep....the oceans I would cross

What is sleep ?

I can't remember anymore

I'm in too deep

I might fall to the floor

Making progress is too steep

It has made me so sore
