Sleep

In deep slumber I lay. Eyes wide awake.
Overdosed by a bottle of burdens, I've carried around for years.
I fought so hard to stay solid. To stay sober. But I wasnt strong enough.
Life as I knew it was cold. And my body was no stranger to the frostbite that came in the never ending winter season.
I was alone.
I tried to reach out to the power that created me. Still reaching out actually.
Even now, in my repose.
My paralyzed muscles begged to move, but my brain retired.
So there I lay, buried in sleep.
Six feet under my transgressions. The universe was punishing me.
For being human instead of a worm, or an ant even. Anything but human.
I wish I could feel something. My tears were in drought. Something I was so good at producing. Even they grew tired of my cliche.
That's when I realized I was really alone.
But there was a time when life was generous.
It wasnt always this way, I must admit.
This 'hit by a train' pain, is one that matured with my years.
And like stale bread, my life got worse as I aged.
Now, this is my relapse. After years of sobriety.
I hope this isn't how it ends.
