WHENCE FAIREST MAID DID MY HEART WITH THINE ENTWINE
(A Sonnet To Amina Auyo)
Whence fairest Maid did my heart with thine entwine?
From Loss of age, Touch of youth or thy sweet Eyes?
Or from each other's fate as fates do incline?
Or from our wrongs and rights; laughters or cries?
Speak daughter of beauty, speak while I repine
On my past, present and what may tomorrow rise;
And come away let us on ourselves recline,
While we may sit hand in hand without surmise.
How in thy absence dost I revere each thought?
Like to a man who recounts his youthful grace
And wish that now he could find what was once sought,
Which is nought but love that he longs to embrace.
So from books ever written by men and taught,
No word can mean how I love thee and thy face.
