Son's cry

I wish I could turn back
the clock of life
be a child again
and run in the fields,
full of flowers
all gently dancing
to the ryhtym
set by the wind
their perfume
delicate but there
filling the hot humid air
I wish I could be innocent again
and experience
one more time
the beauty of the wait,
the anticipation
that feeling of helplessness
the frustration
so fulfilling
I wish I could hear the voice
of my mother again
the kindness in her gentle words
the sound of which
I have all but forgotten
I wish I could cry
in my mother's arms
one last time
smell her scent
each time I inhale
trival gestures
never given a second thought
now gone
never to come again
The fields are now built
homes to children
who have no fields to run in
And mother sleeps
the kind of sleep
from which we never wake
the child has grown
all has changed
only my wish remains
