Sound of Music

If music were a poem,
I'd let it flow,
If it were a rhythm,
I'd let it dance.
But poem and rhythm,
Without the other,
Are a hopeless mess,
And a cacophanus clutter.
Both battle for time,
On the rivers of notes,
Both battle for love,
On the strings of emotion.
Each longs to be understood,
Each longs to be felt,
Both want what the other has,
Both face what the other fears.
But when the flow is broken...
At the end they lie,
On the shattered lines of verse,
And in silence we'll all lose,
The blessed sound of music.
