Sunset on Rt 66 #2 Their Voice

Today was a sunny day
Barely a stiff breeze
Homeless carrying all they own
To find warmth from eves freeze...
They'll sleep in doorways
In back of a burnt out church
Other times on an old roof
They find a cozy place to perch...
The city's built tiny houses
Places where one pays a fee to stay
Eight tiny homes share one bath area
I'm sorry but there must be a better way...
I live in the area they call "UpTown"
There cannot be seen anywhere in sight
The closest ones are in the "DownTown" area
The path this city is on just isn't right...
When I live in Hartford, back east
I was a staunch advocate for the homeless
I spoke at shelters (six) pantries (5) Churches (20)
News Stations(5) sought me, to keep the fires alive...
I say this not to be a braggart or blowheart
I did what I did as the need was/is strong
I'm going to have to pick up my ink and quill
Gently point out where this city's going wrong...
I asked "Joy Junction" to help me
Start a homeless newspaper, Like Beat of the Street
I wrote an email laying out my plan, want no funding
They they were not be interested, would not meet...
Now, on my own-with my own funds
I will again breathe life into the homeless
Make sure that their voices are heard clear
My Creator will by my abilities others bless...
As the Sunsets on Rt 66 many stories I see
The name of my newsletter's title came to me...
