Sunset Pity Party

You went missing as the stars ripped out
the sun
When our house of illusion opened to vulnerability
I was fading -
Into somber fabric and cushion captivity
Falling apart under azure illumination
And the impatient static
I didn't know as a scattered child
That the loneliness would be so traumatic
I had to watch
The driveway and doorways
Letting my ears bleed listening for
footsteps
Yours - but they never seemed to stay
My eyes were raw
Bloodshot from watching the sunlight burn my world down
And the doors were opening
But you were walking out of each of them
This wasn't the first batch of abandonment
Because the night before
I burned this house down
But my madness rebuilds it
Whenever you decide
To leave town
