My heart once resided in shadowed confines,
Where darkness lingered, and longing entwines.
Alone it wept, a hollow, empty plea,
Until it found strength, bursting forth to be free.
It stepped into light, touched raindrops falling anew,
Then shattered to darkness, as if nothing were true.
My thoughts, ever scolding, chide my stubborn stance,
"Take it slowly," they whisper, "a slow, sailing dance."
For many have lips that speak falsehoods with ease,
And sweetness can vanish, like a blink on the breeze.
Too painful it is, to walk down that lane,
A broken heart bleeding, enduring the pain.
So let me embrace the red and green of the sunset's fiery hue,
