I remember as we made our plans,
I doubted myself only to have a reason
for you to explain it again.
Early before the first light.
You were up excitedly being loud
hoping to stir me awake.
Sleepily I opened my eyes to your
exciting gaze. "Oh did I wake you up"
you laughed.
This was our first hunt together.
I already dreamed of my HUGE buck
I would prove I could do it.
No matter how excited I was, you always hyped me up more.
"You got this" you said, confident.
Never got tired of hearing
your hunting stories .
Every story had a learnable lesson.
Mom and I killed our first deer
You would have been content after
to never have hunted again.
You taught me to love hunting,
But not for the kill.
I love hunting for the lessons.
So maybe I never had to say goodbye
Because your still here
Revealing those lessons.
