I lie here in wait
on an avenue of death
for a sharp sickle to reap
my dying last breath.
Bathed in hot blood
to attract the hollow eyes
of the wraith that so seeks
deaths foretold surprise,
and when I am found,
my soul will shine through,
bleeding bright colors
as souls sometimes do.
There before he harvests
my life's twinkling star,
he will first so admire
my life from afar,
and as he swims my mind's
deep rivers and lost riffs,
he sees all I've ever known
and cries as he sifts,
through things I have loved
and their memories so true,
hidden beneath the ashes
of others so blue,
covered to forget their beauty
and all of their grace,
and left so deeply within
this dark sulken place.
But once he had seen
my life beneath the light,
he leaves me with my soul
and continues on his flight.
In my life today
I hold my memories high,
so never to forget
the apples of my eye.
