I climb
up on the highest mountain,
Where the winds do whisper.
Hoping to see the beauty,
the beauty I've always wanted to see,
My mother has always narrated,
with tears in her eyes, and a smile so free.
But as I go higher and higher,
the winds grow stronger and colder,
I start to feel sad without reason,
my heart grows heavy with a tale untold.
No idea of what's happening,
but the feeling's hard to ignore,
A sense of longing, a yearning for something more.
But then I get a glimpse of something,
a strange creature in the darkness,
No idea what it is, maybe I'm dreaming,
or maybe it's just my heart's madness.
It keeps coming closer and closer,
with eyes that shine like the stars,
But I'm determined, this time,
to face my fears, and to travel far.
I suddenly hear my name, "Jelilah! Jelilah!"
echoing through the night,
A voice that's familiar, yet strange, a voice that's calling me to take flight.
I wonder what's happening, but the voice grows louder, more clear,
"Jelilah, my little girl, turn around, dear, and hold my hand, my star,"
As I turn, I get stuck between rocks,
stronger rocks than my mind,
But they're so soft and small,
I can go through them,
I can leave my fears behind.
I told myself,
"Be brave, Jelilah, be strong,
and you'll find your way,"
And then I remember the beauty I've been searching for, all these years, every day.
My beloved father's beauty,
the beauty I've always desired to see,
A beauty that's kind, gentle, strong, and free.
Once again, I hear my name,
And I see the beauty, shining bright, and clear.
I close my eyes, to embrace my luck, to hold the beauty tight,
But before I could take a step, I heard his words again, "I can always hear you, my dear,
I'm always near."
I open my eyes, to find myself lying down, in the compound, under the bright, lovely stars,
In the night sky, with the beauty shining bright, near and far.
