The Beauty of Wings

The Beauty of Wings
In the quiet of the evening, when the world hushes down,
I find myself tending to thoughts that swirl around.
Once, our love bloomed like a garden in spring,
Filled with laughter and joy, with all that we could bring.

But now, a shadow lingers where warmth used to be,
A heavy, aching silence that whispers to me.
You claim it's your fear that guides your hand,
But love, my dear, should never be a demand.

When we were entwined, hearts open and free,
We danced in the light of what could be.
Every word that we spoke was wrapped in a kiss,
But now words feel like chains, with something amiss.

You say you did good, but it's hard to comprehend,
When love turns to duty, it loses its blend.
Love is not measured by fear of the fall,
But by the courage to stand, to surrender it all.

Shouldn't we treasure what we held close at night?
Instead, our hearts tremble, caught up in fright.
Are we merely cautioning to avoid the pain,
Or losing the beauty that we once gained?

In your eyes, I see shadows, a longing to hide,
A retreat from the love we once let abide.
But if we stay pinned by the weight of our fears,
The love that we cherished will drown in our tears.

So, let’s not pretend that this is enough,
When love's meant to flourish, not merely be tough.
Let's remember the times when we felt truly alive,
When we held each other close and let our spirits thrive.

If letting go means we'll find peace anew,
Then perhaps that's the love that’s waiting for you.
For love isn't bound by possessiveness or chains,
But by the depth of understanding, the joy that remains.

So, I pen this poem in the hope you can see,
The love that is real should set both of us free.
If we can't learn to love in a light that is warm,
Then perhaps it's time to break from this storm.

My heart will forever hold the memories we've built,
But I cannot thrive in this cage forged from guilt.
Let's choose a goodbye that is gentle and kind,
So we both can move forward, leave the past behind.

With affection, I'll cherish the laughter and light,
But I won’t hold on to a love cloaked in fright.
So, here's my farewell, not wrought with despair,
But with the hope that we both find what's fair.

And if in the distance your heart still sings,
Know that this love taught me the beauty of wings.
May we soar through the skies, where love knows no bounds,
And in the echoes of memories, may true freedom be found.
