The Blood

The blood shed at the tree,
Was enough to reconcile me with thee,
To set a sinner like me free,
To heed the universe's plea.
From His brow that day,
Flowed the painful torrents,
Red as crimson they were,
Washed away my iniquity.
The blood that flowed at Calvary,
That which speaks mightily,
Than the blood of Abel,
Shed by Cain the bloodthirsty,
United me with my God.
This blood can never,
Be compared to the one of bulls,
For the latter can never,
Wash away our guilt.
That which ensued from the lamb,
Once each year in that solemn day,
Can never surpass the one,
Shed once and for all,
Upon that rugged cross.
In the whole universe,
No being could be found fit,
For the work of redeeming us,
Other than our Lord Jesus,
Oh!how great is the story of redemption !
