(A true story)
While working in the Florida glades, we came across a bobcat who had got it's foot caught in a trap. Wanting to free the animal, we studied the situation in a effort to come up with a plan to release the critter without being attacked by it.
Then one of our crew suggested that he backtrack and retrieve a suitcase we passed awhile ago. All agreed.
Fifteen minutes later, he returned with the suitcase. Opening the case, we approached the cat, and successfuly wrapped it around the creature. Then two others went to work, opening the trap. One it was free, the paw retreated into the suitcase, the case was closed and latched.
Now, we needed a plan to open the case, and release the bobcat. The same member who remembered the case, now had a new plan. We walked through the glades a little until we came to a roadway. We set the case on the side of the road, retreated to the cover of the glades, and watched to see what would happen next.
It took about 10 minutes before an older station wagon came down the road, carrying more passengers then it was designed for. It spotted the case, and slowed while it passed to take a closer look. The wagon turned around, and slowed again as it passed to assess the situation. It turned around once more, and as it passed again, it stopped, a back door opened, a passenger got out, retrieved the suitcase, got back in the vehicle, and sped off.
The station wagon made it about 500 feet before it started weaving frantically, driving off the road, before coming to a stop in a ditch. Every single car door flew open and every single passenger came tumbling out and running in every which direction.
And the bobcat was finally free.
