This little poem is about a club with razzmatazz
In the thirties it was jumping with swing and jazz
The Cotton Club was the name of this place
Back in those days only exclusive to the white only race
The Cotton Club was located in the heart of New York
The place to listen to music, to meet up and talk
Appearing at this club were musicians amongst the jazz elite
Basie, Waller, Armstrong, Calloway all guaranteed stomping feet
The Cotton Club I am sorry to say is no more
In 1940 tax evasion meant they would close the door
People still talk of the Cotton Club to this day
I wish I was around at that time is all I will say
